This set includes two filter plates measuring 30 × 35 cm each, which clip together to cover a 72.5 × 29.2 cm aquarium. If you need more coverage, additional sets can be added. The plates interlock easily, allowing you to expand the filtration area as your tank size increases.

Under-gravel filters have been used for over 50 years and are known as one of the most stable and reliable filtration systems available. They are now making a comeback, upgraded to work alongside modern canister and hang-on-back filters.

This hybrid system connects the under-gravel filter uplift tube directly to the inlet of a power filter. This creates turbocharged filtration that pulls waste from beneath the filter plates, effectively vacuuming gravel, pebbles, or even a bare-bottom tank. Clean, filtered water is then returned to the aquarium.

An additional uplift tube is included and can remain in place until a water change is needed. When the time comes, simply attach a wet/dry vacuum to the tube to remove up to 99% of fish waste in seconds.

The filter features a flat-plate design with increased open space for improved water circulation. Plates are made from semi-flexible, break-resistant plastic that resists splitting and cracking for long-lasting performance.

It uses the same uplift tube assembly as Lee’s Original Under Gravel Filters and is the most economical of Lee’s three under-gravel filter styles. Despite its affordability, it includes a fish-saver elbow, Slim Discard-A-Stone, and an Original Carbon Cartridge.

The system also supports an optional flow-through setup for use with a powerhead. Available in rectangular shape only.

AQUARIUM HACK USING UNDERGRAVEL FILTERS

  • TIME SAVING HACKS

  • If you spend hours cleaning gravel and swapping water, this setup saves time.

    What you need

  • Under-gravel filter tray

  • 2 uptake tubes

  • Funnel

  • Coarse lava rock (½-inch pebbles work best)

  • Magnetic glass cleaners

  • Plastic plant holders

  • Superglue

  • Wet & dry vacuum

  • Steps

  • Empty the fish tank

  • Place the under-gravel filter tray

  • Attach the filter intake to 1 uptake tube

  • Leave the filter outflow unchanged

Add a funnel to the second uptake tube

Add a thin gravel layer, or use coarse lava rock on top

Plant setup hack

Take 2 magnetic glass cleaners

Superglue plant holders to the wet-side magnet

Add plants and a small amount of substrate into the plant holders and stick them with themagnets to the backwall of the tank , position them away from the bottom gravel - we dont want roots to bind to the bottom gravel .

Fill the tank using a garden hose aimed into the funnel

You can move plants anywhere.

Drop a root tab into the holder when needed.

No digging. Clear water. No mess.

Fast water change hack

Connect a wet & dry vacuum to the funnel

Strong suction clears fish waste in 5–10 seconds

Water pulls straight into the vacuum

Rinse the filter sponge in the vacuum bucket

Refill the tank with fresh water through the funnel

Why this works

Large rock holds less waste

Waste lifts into the filter, not the gravel .Result - no ammonia , no nitrates inside the tank.Good bacteria colony in the gravel gets a good oxygenated water flow as the water gets pulled thru the gravel .

Mobile plants keep maintenance fast and clean
